Amaravati (The Hawk): The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, issued a directive to the district collectors on Thursday to remain watchful in light of the cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal.
At this meeting, the Chief Minister assessed the cyclone situation in the Bay of Bengal. He stated that the authorities should examine the storm's impact periodically and take the necessary safeguards.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that rain was expected in Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor, and other districts as a result of the storm.
The agriculture department employees were instructed by Jagan Mohan Reddy to inform farmers of the safeguards they must take and to assist them.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone 'Mandous' Alay was centred at 08:30 UTC approximately 300 kilometres east-southeast of Karaikal and approximately 550 kilometres southeast of Chennai.
IMD bulletin: "It is very likely to proceed west-northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and bordering south Andhra Pradesh coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota with a maximum sustained wind speed of 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph around the middle of the night on 9th December."
Under the influence of the cyclone, heavy to very heavy rain was anticipated in isolated locations over the next three days in the districts of Prakasam, SRSP Nellore, and Tirupati in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and in the districts of Chittoor, Annamayya, and YSR Kadapa in Rayalaseema.
According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, over a million users have received alarm messages via the common alert protocol.
Authorities have been instructed to closely monitor the storm's development.
For rescue and relief activities, five National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and four State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams were maintained on standby.
